Truth be told, it doesn’t really matter if the dreams shall be achieved or not; after all the future is beyond our predictions. But these dreams still play a very important role in the development of any child. Here are a few reasons each child should be encouraged to find a passion/aspiration: Boosting imagination- children are usually imaginative dreamers by nature. Allowing and encouraging the possibility of becoming a fascinating career creates a vast ground for them to develop their imagination and harvest ideas in. This imagination is an attribute that not only improves their mood and motivation but is also a valuable skill that yields creativity later on in life. A sense of direction- while it is a universal truth that children aged 9-13 require plenty of guidance from adults and caretakers to help them navigate the world, having an aspiration can highly contribute to their journey to independence as they use these goals as their very first inner compass that drives them to acquire skills, work hard and satisfy their curiosities. Acquisition of important skills- One of the reasons that makes the destination the least relevant part of their little career journeys, is the plethora of skills and experiences they gather along the way. These transferrable skills will always find a way to play a useful role in future career- whatever it may be. Improved confidence- Upon having gathered skills, opinions and experiences, children are bound to feel confident when they feel a sense of purpose and achievement. This helps them develop self-trust in a world where their capabilities may be doubted, hence, leading to innumerable opportunities. Social skills- When children find others with similar interests, they naturally initiate discussions and friendships. Having a strong interest/ passion in a career helps them socialize with like-minded individuals, make valuable friendships, and carry this trait throughout their lives.
