We all hear the word “career” throughout our time in school and all throughout university but what does it really mean to find the right career?

The word “career” is derived from the French word meaning “road”, which can be interpreted as someone’s path or journey through life or a particular time in someone’s life. Nowadays we use the word career to define our paths in life, which are to do with professions that we take up after completing our education. So what does the word career mean to younger students that may not yet be aware of the reality of choosing the right career for themselves and what advice can we give to these students when it comes to picking a career that they can enjoy and excel in? Many younger students in year levels 5 to 10 may not have a clue on what they want as a career in life, however this is also due to the lack of knowledge of the various careers available in different industries, most students would reply with either “doctor”, “engineer” or something similar. To that when asked what they want to be when they’re older they may be confused, as later in life this may not be the exact career path they were looking for. So in order to help these students choose what’s best for them, they should be guided and given the right resources to choose what they may really be passionate about. According to many, a career without passion is not the best career for you and I completely agree with that statement. So with that the best advice anyone can use is that, make sure to do your research on the field you’re interested in and trust me you’ll find many jobs you probably never even heard about and one of them might be your future career path!
