Combining Music and Studying: Is it really helpful?

It is a common misconception that music only works to distract you when you are trying to focus. If correctly chosen, music only helps boost productivity, focus, and motivation. Different forms of music help achieve different mindsets. Pop, rock, and folk music provide a more chilled-out, party mindset, while classical, nature sounds and others increase focus. Classical music is referred to as one of the best study genres, providing side effects like better mood and increased concentration-- often called the Mozart Effect. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #3 is an example of a highly recommended classical song to listen to while studying. However, classical music is not for everyone. Other forms like soft, peaceful nature sounds are another example of highly effective study music. Nature sounds possess a calming, meditative quality that enhances the environment and builds focus. Recently, as the popularity and demand for it has shot up, there have been several nature music playlists added to Spotify. While these two seem to be most popular with teenagers right now, other forms of music that are proven to help are Timed Tempos, Modern Electronic, and Instrumental Ambient Sounds.
